Chocolate syrup or chocolate sauce can be bought in the grocery in bottles with tubes for easy pouring. But you can also make it at home if you want something richer, darker, or sweeter, or not so sweet. A simple chocolate sauce can be made from unsweetened cocoa powder, sugar and water but the best kinds will be made from pure cacao or dark chocolate bars containing at least 50% cocoa solids. This makes an intense and rich sauce with a strong and unforgettable chocolate flavor. In some recipes for chocolate syrup, malt, corn syrup, butter, cream, and vanilla extract can be added to enhance the flavor and improve the texture. There are many ways you can use chocolate sauce not just in making chocolate float or chocolate drinks. You can also use it to top ice cream, pudding, pies, cakes, custards, and so on.
To keep the chocolate from turning solid again, there should be a good proportion of liquids added to making the sauce. The chocolate can be melted with water and sugar and then cream and butter is added to make it thick and unctuous. The sauce can be flavored with vanilla extract and liqueur like brandy, Grand Marnier, or Kahlua to give it a touch of sophistication.
Mix rich cold milk with Chocolate Sauce in a tall glass.
Beat or shake thoroughly and top with Frozen Whipped Cream.
Serve immediately with Whipped Cream and chocolate sauce on top.
