Chocolate Ice Cream

Close to vanilla ice cream, chocolate is the second most wanted icecream flavor in the US, according to a 2012 study by the International icecream Association (IICA) of their member companies (which manufacture and dispense ice creams in the United States). Chocolate icecream owes its popularity perhaps in part because chocolate by itself is besides a well-treasured flavor and sweet.

Whether done as American-mode or French-way ice cream, the texture of chocolate icecream can be silky clean as chocolate mousse. Like vanilla just darker, it gets this cream and milk frozen confection to a fascination stratum. At its most fundamental (meaning no addition yet of nuts, chocolate chips or syrup), chocolate ice cream can be as grand as vanilla.

Most chocolate ice cream recipes use a combination of unsweetened chocolate powder and a bar of semi-sweet chocolate. Some merely use the cocoa powder—natural or Dutch-refined.  Other chocolate ice cream formulas add coffee to deepen the chocolate-ness.  Vanilla extract or chocolate extract is also contributed to round out the savor. Then cocoa and/or semi-sweet chocolate allow for both the brown to dark brown colour as well as the taste.

Although most early iced creams were flavoured with fruit, Food Timeline also discovered some chocolate icecream in the 18th century. The earliest chocolate ice cream recipes were from a French cookbook in 1768. Contemporary ice cream formulas incorporate the cocoa and/or semi-sweet chocolate with the milk or cream then simmered. The custard base is made individually then both are mixed, chilled then refined in the ice cream machine. Easier chocolate ice cream formulas the chocolate is simply simmered with the milk, let to cool then supplied to the whipped cream.

Chocolate icecream, when supplied with other ingredients such as chocolate syrup, chopped up nuts, chocolate chips, marshmallows  and mint make chocolate icecream versions like Rocky Road, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Double Dutch Chocolate icecream.
